1. Research Methods (UCC504)
Overview

2. Research Project (MIT600)
Overview:
The Thesis Research is the culminating experience for students in the Master of Science in Information Technology program. This course enables students to apply the research methodologies, technical expertise, and analytical skills gained throughout their studies to address a significant, real-world problem in the field of information technology. Working independently under the guidance of an academic supervisor, students will conduct rigorous research, analyze complex technological challenges, and propose innovative, practical solutions.
Unit Aims:
- To conduct independent research that integrates concepts, methodologies, and technologies from the field of information technology.
- To critically evaluate existing literature and apply appropriate research methodologies to solve a specific IT-related problem.
- To develop advanced analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills to generate valuable insights and recommendations for the IT industry.
- To enhance project management, report writing, and presentation skills to effectively communicate research findings to academic and professional audiences.
Thesis Structure:
- Project Proposal: Students will begin by identifying a relevant and specific research question, preparing a proposal that includes objectives, research methodology, a literature review, and anticipated outcomes.
- Data Collection & Analysis: Students will gather and analyze primary or secondary data using appropriate research methods (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods) to address the research question.
- Final Report: The thesis culminates in a comprehensive research report that presents the problem, methodology, findings, and practical recommendations, demonstrating critical thinking and academic rigor.
- Presentation: Students will present their research findings to a panel of academic supervisors and industry professionals, showcasing their ability to communicate outcomes clearly and professionally.

1. Entry Requirements
In addition to the entry requirements, candidates applying to the program are also assessed for their suitability by the admissions committee before joining the program to ensure that they can acquire and benefit from the program.
Entry requirements:
To enroll this program, learners must possess one of the criteria below:
- A Bachelor’s qualification in Majors from accredited universities;
- Or a Level 6 EQF diploma or an equivalent qualification from organizations that are authorized to issue qualifications and have been accredited.
English requirements:
If a learner is not from a predominantly English-speaking country, proof of English language proficiency must be provided.
- Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2 or equivalent;
- Or A minimum TOEFL score of 101 or IELTS 5.5; Reading and Writing must be at 5.5 or equivalent.
Please note:
- In case of not having an English proficiency certificate, the candidate can provide it within 6 months.
- SIMI Swiss does not accept entry qualifications from counterfeit universities, Diploma Mills, or universities accredited by unreliable accreditation agencies.
- SIMI reserves the right to make admissions decisions based on the requirements of recognized agencies and the global quotas of the program.
2. Learning methods
The qualification is designed to be delivered over 1,5 academic year for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning.
The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance, online by SIMI Swiss, SIMI members and/or SIMI approved centres only.
